Seven Truths My Last Relationship Taught Me...

By: John Patrick Adams

Many times when we first come out of a relationship, it’s easy to play the role of the victim…  Initially you see all the negative things that came as a result of being in the relationship and if you’re not careful, you will find yourself chained (hate, angry at, holding onto hurt) to the very person you want to be free of…  So today, I want to share with you "Seven Truths My Last Relationship Taught Me"…

So here we go…

Good Sex Doesn’t Make A Good Relationship…No matter how good the sex is, it will not make your relationship any better…  Sex complicates things many times and it causes our feelings to get all twisted up into someone we shouldn’t be…  Many times we allow “sex” to be the “fix all” for our situations…  You argue, “sex” calms the room…  They cheat, “sex” helps you to move on…  They lie, “sex” helps you to look over it…  I had to learn the hard way “sex” only satisfy the needs in your pants, not the needs in your life… If the relationship sucks, good “sex” will only blind you to the truth…

Let The Small Stuff Roll Off Your Back…  Everything doesn’t deserve your attention, energy or time…  Most times we argue over things that aren’t important…  We fight for control, fight to prove they’re wrong and we’re right and for some of you, you argue just for the hell of it…  You can’t go a day without arguing because you love drama…  Fix what you can, pray about what you can’t and everything else, let it roll off your back…  It’s not worth the energy…

You’re Guilty Of The Crimes They’re Committing…  It’s funny how many times we are accused of things we’ve never even thought about… We’re accused of cheating, flirting, telling lies, stealing and doing things that disrespects the relationship…  I had to learn the hard way people accuse us of the things in which they are doing…  If you ever want to know what your mate is guilty of, pay attention to the things they accuse you of…  Because they’re getting away with the crimes, they believe you’ve found ways to get away with it also…  Guilt has a way of pulling the sheets off of the guilty…  Instead of trying to prove your innocence, let them reveal their guilt…  Time tells all, just be ready to accept the truth when it is revealed…

No Trust Equals No Peace…  If you can’t trust the one you’re with, you will never have peace…  It’s tiresome constantly questioning if the one you’re with is telling the truth…  It’s overwhelming to constantly seek loop holes in everything he/she says…  If you can’t trust the one you’re with, they’re not the one you should be with…  However, before you question them, make sure your motives are pure and there’s no baggage from previous relationships, etc.  Having no trust in a relationship is a recipe for hurt, control, manipulation, and a painful future…

It’s Not Always Concern…  Just because “Bae” calls every morning, text throughout the day, surprises you with a visit and talks to you until you fall asleep, doesn’t mean they’re concerned nor desiring to be around or talk with you…   Many times we confuse “concern” with “control”…  I had to learn the hard way sometimes people check in to see WHERE YOU ARE and WHO YOU'RE WITH…  They talk throughout the day to pinpoint your whereabouts for various reasons… it could be because of their own insecurities, but it can also be because of their own guilt…   How you can tell the difference, watch how he/she reacts when you don’t immediately respond…  Every call isn’t to see how you are, but sometimes where you are…

I Deserve The Very Best…  One thing my last relationship taught me is I don’t have to settle just for anything, I can have and I deserve the very best…  I learned as a result of my last relationship I’m pretty amazing, smart, and a creative guy…  I learned I have so much to offer and I deserve only the same in return…  My last relationship taught me what a bad relationship looks like and how to look for the relationship that will enhance me…  I learned so many wonderful things in my last relationship until I want to send a “Thank You” card (I wish I would, just sounded like the right thing to say)…  But I’m my best me, so I deserve the best of someone else…

I’m Stronger Than I Could Have Ever Imagined…My last relationship taught me my true strength…  I’ve always known I was strong in certain areas, but I never realize just how strong in life I was until I walked away from that relationship…  Many times we find ourselves battling with “comfort zones”, “fear”, and our “hearts”…  We allow ourselves to become helpless beings who are unable to deal with the hurt, pain, and challenges of walking into the unknown… I learned I’m limitless in every aspect of my life and I can have everything I want including happiness as a single man…  My last relationship taught me I can do any and everything I want through the help of my provider of strength, Jesus Christ…  The only limits we have in life are those we place on ourselves and this includes, JUST HOW STRONG WE ARE…

What I know for sure is…  My last relationship taught me so many truths and I’m grateful for each of them… What truths did you learn???  Tell me in the comment section...
