Super Bowl I --
Super Bowl II -- Herb Adderley becomes the first player to return a touchdown for an interception.
Super Bowl III -- Matt Snell becomes the first 100 yard rusher as the New York Jets upset the Baltimore Colts. Super Bowl VI -- At halftime, Ella Fitzgerald became the first black singer to take the stage in the salute to Louis Armstrong.
Super Bowl VII -- Before the game, Charley Pride makes history as the first black solo performer to sing the national anthem.
Super Bowl X -- Lynn Swann becomes the first wide receiver to win the MVP award.
Super Bowl XII -- For the first and only time in Super Bowl history, the MVP award was split between two players, Harvey Martin and Randy White.
Super Bowl XIII -- Lynn Swann and John Stallworth become the first set of teammates to each catch for over 100 yards in the Steeler's third Super Bowl win.
Super Bowl XV -- Rod Martin becomes the first player to intercept three passes in a Super Bowl; meanwhile Kenny King Sets a Super Bowl record with the first 80 yard pass reception.
Super Bowl XVII -- Fulton Walker becomes the first player to return a kickoff for a touchdown and sets a SB record with 190 return yards.
Super Bowl XVIII -- Marcus Allen sets Super Bowl records for both yardage (191), longest run (74) and yards per carry (9.6)
Super Bowl XIX -- Wendell Tyler becomes the first player to lead two teams in rushing in a Super Bowl.
Super Bowl XXII -- Doug Williams becomes the first black quarterback to play in -- and win -- a Super Bowl. Williams also becomes the first black quarterback to win the MVP award. Meanwhile the little-known Timmy Smithexplodes for a Super Bowl record 204 yards.
Super Bowl XXII -- Chubby Checker is the first black solo act to headline Super Bowl halftime.
Super Bowl XXIII -- Jerry Rice ties the all time receptions record with 11 catches.
Super Bowl XXIV -- For an encore, Rice sets the all-time receiving touchdown record with three scores (only equaled by himself in XXIX)
Super Bowl XXX -- Charles Haley becomes the only player ever to win five Super Bowls, having won two with the 49ers and three with the Cowboys.
Super Bowl XXXV -- Black kick returns mark a Super Bowl first as two kicks are returned for touchdowns -- on successive kickoffs. Ron Dixon struck first for the Giants. Jermaine Lewis followed for the Ravens. Meanwhile, off the field Greg Gumbel becomes the first African-American to do play-by-play for the Super Bowl and first man to host the pre-game show and do play-by-play.
Super Bowl XXXVII -- A pair of black defensive players become the first teammates to score three defensive touchdowns in a game. Dwight Smith returns two interceptions for a touchdown while Derrick Brooks adds a third.
Super Bowl XXXVII -- Jerry Rice plays in his final Super Bowl, grabbing one last touchdown as the Raiders were routed by the 49ers. Rice became one of three players to play in Super Bowls in three separate decades (joining Gene Upshaw as well as Bill Romanowski) and one of just three players to score a touchdown in four Super Bowls (joining Thurman Thomas and John Elway).
Super Bowl XXXVIII -- Muhsin Muhammad sets a Super Bowl record with an 85-yard touchdown reception.
Super Bowl XXXIX -- Deion Branch joins elite company when he becomes just the third black wide receiver to win the MVP award, joining Jerry Rice and Lynn Swann. Branch also tied Rice's record for receptions with 11.
