Skechers to refund customers for false claims
If you fell for the ads for Skechers Shape-up shoes and expected the round-bottomed sneakers to help you lose weight or tone your body, you could be entitled to a settlement reward. Advertisement

The Federal Trade Commission announced a settlement on Wednesday that provides $40 million in refunds for customers who were deceived by the false claims.

The print and television ads for the shoes claimed you could "get in shape without ever setting foot in a gym" and "shape up while you walk."

However, tests showed the shoes did little to tone or change muscle structure in the legs or backsides of users.

The agreement covers shoes bought since August 1, 2008 and includes Shape-up shoes, Resistance Runner, Shape-ups Toners/Trainers and Tone-Ups shoes.

The shoes cost anywhere between $60 to $100 per pair.

How much of a refund you get depends on how many pairs of shoes you bought, and how many other consumers apply.

The Skechers Settlement website says the refunds could range from $20 to $80.

For more information, visit the FTC's Skecher's refund page and the company's Skechers Settlement web page below. You can also call the FTC Hotline at (866) 325-4186.
