Sharpton Fuming Over Ex-Wife And Daughter's Arrest

Civil rights leader Reverend Al Sharpton has taken to the internet to blast New York police after his ex-wife and oldest daughter were arrested in the city on Friday (30Oct09).

Kathy Jordan, 53, and her 23-year-old daughter Dominique were pulled over in Harlem for allegedly speeding through a red light to pass a police car. The pair was taken into custody after an argument erupted with authorities over attempts to issue a summons for the traffic violation. They were subsequently charged with resisting arrest. The incident has left Sharpton seething - and he has gone online to vent hisanger at the way cops handled the situation.

In a series of posts on his Twitter.com page, he writes, "I cannot imagine how two unarmed women with no record could be taken in cuffs from a traffic dispute with NO personal or property damage involved. Well this is what we deal with every day. We will never accept unfairness. (There was) no drugs or drinking at all."

Sharpton and Jordan separated in 2004 after 23 years together. The ex-couplealso shares a 22-year-old daughter, Ashley.

Speeding through a red right, resisting arrest, Why would you run a red light and put your life and others in danger? If you break the law you pay the price. I think arresting the two was a bit overboard unless there was some serious resisting going on. My daughter was stopped by police for speeding and once pulled over by the police she told the officer she was not speeding and insisted it was the car traveling ahead of her. She was polite and respectful in stating here case. she had no prior violations but was given a citation and told she could protest the ticket in court. This case should have been handled simular. I think the police over-reacted "the question is why'. We really need to be aware of how we conduct ourself in the presence of law officers. As the old saying goes 'you can get more with honey than you can with vinagar'.
